Does replacing my toilet actually save on my water bill?
It's hard to believe, but if you have a toilet with a 5 gallon tank on the back of it, you are using way more water than new more efficient toilets. It is actually code in the Ontario building code for new homes to be installed with toilets that have a 4.8l tank. So yes, updating your toilets may not only save on your water bill, but it will also save the environment.
What is better? A single lever flush of the 2 button push flush?
From our experience we find the single lever flush to be much more efficient. Typically residents or guests in your home will not use the proper button for either pee or poo. The less water button is usually not enough and the more water button is a normal flush. Another issue with the push button flush is the parts may be harder to locate and replace compared to standard flapper and handle with chain design.
Is a wax seal still good to use?
Wax seals are very common, and there is a reason why and that is because it works. Now some plumbers don’t like them, and others swear by them. The choice is typically up to the technician. Rubber seals are required where there is in floor heating as a wax seal would melt. A rubber seal has play to give if there is movement with the toilet, whereas a wax once set will not change shape.
